Tryon Arts and Crafts School hosts Mountain Vista Pendant Workshop with Ilene Kay

 

TRYON—Next week, Ilene Kay, a talented jewelry designer who has been creating stunning pieces for over 30 years, will teach a workshop on crafting a mountain vista pendant at Tryon Arts and Crafts School. 

Kay’s love for jewelry-making began during her college years when she studied art at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond. After completing her degree, she continued to hone her craft by studying with master goldsmiths and designers. 

Although her studies covered various metals, Kay found her niche in working with argentium silver. She has spent years developing her own techniques and processes, becoming a member of the Argentium Silver Guild.

Her work caught the attention of the Tryon Arts and Crafts School, and she now teaches classes on painting enamels and creating pendants without traditional bezels. Kay’s upcoming class at TACS will focus on painting a mountain vista on an enameled surface. Students will receive step-by-step instructions and learn color mixing and application techniques.

“Teaching classes and workshops has been a wonderful experience for me,” Kay says. “The students often have a unique way of approaching a technique or project that encourages stretching the limits of that technique and keeps jewelry making fresh and exciting.”

The Mountain Vista Pendant Workshop with Ilene Kay will take place on May 31 and June 1, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The workshop costs $300 for members and $330 for non-members, with a materials fee of $28.
