On Friday, April 28 around 2:20 p.m. Polk County deputies were dispatched to 395 Will Green Rd. in Tryon for a physical domestic in progress.

Upon arriving, the deputies received information that Marcus Dean Wooten, 27 of Polk County, had broken into the residence, assaulted a female, and was forcibly trying to take the female to another nearby residence.

While speaking to the victim, deputies noticed bruising on her arms, chest area, and around her eye. She confirmed that Wooten had broken into the residence, assaulted her and attempted to drag her from the home, according to police.

Additionally, the victim told deputies that when Wooten heard sirens he fled into a nearby wooded area. Deputies called in a K-9 unit and were able to detain Wooten a short while later.

Marcus Dean Wooten was arrested and charged with second degree kidnapping, breaking and entering a residence, assault on a female and resisting a public officer.

Wooten is currently being held at the Polk County Detention Center under a $54,000 secured bond with his next court date taking place on Wednesday, May 10.

“The deputies did an excellent job responding to the situation, gathering information quickly, offering medical attention to the victim, calling for a K-9 to help track the individual, containing the area, and apprehending the assailant quickly without any further danger to the community.” said Sheriff Tim Wright on Wednesday morning. “ We will continue to serve this community with the utmost protection and professional services that we can provide.”
