East Rutherford freshman Chloe Adair tossed a four-hitter Tuesday to lead the Cavaliers to an 8-1 victory over Polk County in Mountain Foothills 7 Conference softball play at Polk.
The Cavaliers are now 13-6, 8-2 overall. Polk County dropped to 7-11, 2-7.
How it happened: Adair kept the Wolverines in check from the outset, striking out nine. She didn’t allow a hit until the fifth inning.
East Rutherford scored a run in the first, then scored three runs with two outs in the second, taking advantage of a walk and outfield error. The Cavaliers added two more two-out runs in the fifth to build a 5-0 lead.
Polk got on the board in the bottom of the fifth as Elizabeth Vitale was hit by a pitch and Amberlyn Scruggs, Katelyn Arrowood and Junie Mitchell followed with singles, with Mitchell driving in Polk’s run.
East closed the scoring with two runs in the sixth.
At the plate: Mitchell, Arrowood, Scruggs and Mia Bradley each had base hits.
Next up: The two teams are tentatively scheduled to meet again Thursday at East Rutherford, weather permitting.
