Landrum– John Dean Hamrick, 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 12, 2023.

He was loved as a husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend.  He is predeceased by his wife, Myrtle Jane Barton, and by his wife, Mary Barton Carruth.  He is survived by his two children, Michael D. Hamrick (m. Karen Scruggs Hamrick) and Teresa Lynne Paff (m. Daniel G. Paff);  his grandchildren, Blake Daniel Paff (m. Ashlea  Lynn Paff), Matthew Kyle Paff, Sarah Ashton Hamrick, Heath Austin Carruth (m. Lacey Carruth), and Shannon Earle Carruth;  his great-grandchildren, Abigail Emery Paff and Myles Daniel Paff; Olivia Marie Carruth, and Claire Elizabeth Carruth;  his sister, Lura Hamrick Carswell, and his brothers, Joe Baxter Hamrick, Hugh (“Bob”) Bernard Hamrick, and Larry Paul Hamrick.

A veteran of the US Army, he enjoyed a twenty-year career in law enforcement as a Sheriff’s Deputy with Greenville County.  Prior to his service in law enforcement, he spent twenty-five years with J.C. Brown Co. in Landrum, SC. After retirement, he volunteered with Operation Hope for many years,  was an active member at Gowensville First Baptist Church in Gowensville, SC., and served as church treasurer for thirty years and as a deacon.

He enjoyed being outdoors, hiking, traveling, woodworking, and was an avid collector of knives.  He was active in serving his church and community, both through his career in law enforcement and in retirement.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at First Baptist Church Gowensville, 5650 SC Highway 14, Landrum, SC.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held in the church sanctuary following the graveside service.
