Two Rotary Club of Tryon members were on hand to celebrate their role in the groundbreaking for the Columbus Children’s Center. The Center will be built and operated by WNCSource to provide Early Head Start programs for children up to three years old. The Columbus Children’s Center will be the only program in Polk County that provides daycare support for parents of children under 3 years of age.

 

The Center is being built on the campus of Thermal Belt Outreach Ministry.  Rotarian and Outreach Executive Director Margot Carter was joined by Rotarian and former Outreach Executive Director George Alley for the ceremony. 

 

During his time as Executive Director for Outreach, Alley worked with the Board to develop and implement a vision for Outreach that went beyond just food and financial support for clients. He envisioned how the campus could be used to provide housing assistance and childcare services for Outreach clients.  

 

When Carter assumed the role of Outreach Executive Director in 2021, she worked to make this vision a reality by completing the construction of four rental homes on the Outreach property and finalizing the agreement to bring the WNCSource Columbus Children’s Center to the Outreach campus.
