Stokesdale– Mr. Kenneth Ernest Rhodes, 82, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 16, 2023.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21, at Forbis & Dick – Stokesdale. The family will visit with friends following the service.

A native of Polk County, NC, Kenneth was born on April 24, 1940, the son of the late Ernest and Eunice Wolfe Rhodes. Growing up, he excelled in sports, playing both basketball and football in high school. He then continued his love of sports coaching pee-wee and little league teams. He was an avid Tarheel basketball fan and enjoyed hunting and fishing as well.  Kenneth retired from Cone Mills. His first love, however, was his family. Nothing came before his wife and daughters.

Surviving is his wife of 64 years, Betty Edwards Rhodes; daughters Vicki Moore and her husband, Keith, of Stokesdale, and Julie Beck and her husband, Allen of Lancaster, SC; 7 grandchildren, Taylor Freeman, Nicholas Freeman, Heather Urbanowski (John), Ryan Moore, Kaitlyn Moore, Trey Beck, and Jonathan Beck; 5 great-grandchildren Parker Beck, Payton Beck, Atlas Beck, A. J. Urbanowski, and Allie Urbanowski; sisters Elizabeth Burrell of Tryon, NC and Dorothy Ann Thompson of Columbus, NC.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Dorothy Pack, Sadie Holbert, and Ailene Melton; brothers Paul Rhodes, and Jack Rhodes, and infant brother Alonzo Rhodes.
