Work expected to be completed in July
LANDRUM–Among ongoing speculation that it would be delayed, the construction at the new Aldi grocery store, located at 1750 Hwy. 14 East in Landrum, began the first week of February.
The site was formerly a Bi-Lo grocery store.
According to Landrum City Administrator Rich Caplan, “Bi-Lo was acquired and roughly half of their stores were sold to Food Lion, who chose not to renew the leases of some of their other stores, including the location in Landrum.”
The Landrum Bi-Lo store closed in April 2021, leaving the building vacant for almost two years. The owner of the building currently resides in New Jersey.
Aldi signed the lease for the building last fall, and the remodeling of the new store is being handled by Morgan Construction Company, Inc. of Chattanooga, Tenn. The construction company has done business with Aldi several times in the past.
Construction at the Aldi grocery store is slated to be completed around the beginning of July, according to Morgan Construction Company’s Betsy Fullbright.
This was further confirmed with Morgan’s project manager, Josh Phillips.
“As far as I know, there has been no delay in construction,” said Phillips. “Demolition [of the interior of the store] began last week.”
Aldi is currently hiring for the new location, including full-time store manager trainees, full-time assistant store managers, part-time stockers, full and part-time store associates, and part-time cashiers.
