Tryon Fine Arts Center (TFAC) opened its first of two exhibits which are part of their multi-faceted Jazz ’22 Series.

 

On November 1, the month-long exhibit Jazz ’22 StoryWalk opened. This outdoor exhibit offers an educational stroll for viewers to learn about some of the jazz greats from North Carolina.

 

“The outdoor exhibit at Stearns Park in Columbus features prominent jazz artists, many from North and South Carolina,” said Ronette Dill, Jazz ’22 Series Committee member and Community Partnerships Coordinator. “This exhibit was created through a partnership with the NC Arts Council and Polk County Schools.  Community members are welcome to stroll around Stearns Park, taking time at each display case to read about a jazz artist.” 

Dill adds, “Using a smartphone, community members may also access a short music clip by each artist using the QR code on the individual display. Drop by Stearns Park during the month of November and enjoy a walking tour of jazz!”

 

In mid-November, visual and cinematic arts will come to TFAC as visual artist Marsha Hammel continues her jazz series “The Riff” with new works. This lush, vibrant exhibit opens in TFAC’s JP Gallery on Thursday, November 10 with a free reception at 6:30 p.m. 

 

Jessica Pierce, TFAC Board member and Co-Chair of the TFAC Exhibits Committee with Monica Stevenson, shared “The Jeanne Parker Gallery (10 Nov-6 Jan) will feature artwork by renowned artist Marsha Hammel, along with representational jazz art and mixed media. Marsha was suggested by TFAC committee member Nancy Holmes. Her artwork was specifically chosen, due to her history of painting musicians, especially jazz and blues artists.”
