Please join Saluda Living in Place (SLIP) for a special community awareness program, “Suicide Talk” offered by Fe Anam Avis. It will be held at Saluda Fire and Rescue on Thursday, October 20, from 10 – 11:30 a.m.
Many people of all ages in our community are impacted by suicide. Due to stigma, most suffer alone. Kate Roper from Compass, Web MD, found that 58% of older adults who die by suicide have seen their primary care practitioner in the last month of their life. However, they’re more likely to have talked to their doctor about a physical complaint, rather than a mental health concern.
Join SLIP for this program, and learn basic conversational skills to help someone who may be considering suicide. Learn how to speak with a relative, friend, neighbor, loved one, or acquaintance. As Mr. Avis says, “if you can use the word ‘suicide’ in a sentence, you can save a life.”
Fe Anam Avis is a nationally known figure in suicide prevention and has trained thousands of people in suicide awareness and intervention skills. He is the creator of Soul Shop™, an international movement that trains church leaders, first responders, community leaders, and other concerned individuals to care for those impacted by suicidal desperation as a regular aspect of their life.
Space is limited. Please call SLIP at (828)749-0049 to reserve your place no later than Monday, October 10. Leave a message with your name and phone number and we will return your call. Once you register, you will receive an email reminder several days prior to the presentation.
