“It was that part of evening when the sun has gone but daylight still remains. The whippoorwills called to each other and moved about, and the choirs of frogs had assembled in the ditches to sing their melancholy songs. Bats scurried overhead, swift and gone in the gathering dusk…” ~ Larry Brown, quote from “Joe”
Spring awakens as wind chimes sing on late March breezes. Prisms toss diamonds everywhere as Mr. Coffee steams and snorts morning brew. A cherry tree tosses bouquets to the sun.
I spend the day in the garden: cutting, digging, hauling, moving. A bit here, a bit there…reminding self to drink water–take a break–drink water.
Scratches, dirt under fingernails (oops, forgot those gloves AGAIN!), forgetting to put sunscreen and garden hat on (that’s getting to be a no-no—ask the skin), too caught-up to stop for breaks. I’m trying to get more on-board with toeing the line, but spring’s calling. By evening, it’s time to admire the day’s work with a glass of vino in hand amid wind chimes and fish pond trickle, birds and frogs–grateful for another day, even the dirt under my nails.
