In addition to the ten indoor shows on Super Saturday, there will be lots of free outdoor fun along Melrose Avenue! Secret Cirkus will have a Spin Zone set up with hula hoops and juggling toys, as well as an aerial rig with lessons. Bubbleologist Steve Langley from Soap Bubble Circus will delight crowds with his bubble performances. Superstar Stilts will be making their rounds and providing stiltwalking entertainment. You can also get balloon creations from balloon artist Mark Deverges and caricatures from artist Jerry Frazee.
You’re in luck if you’re an animal lover! Looking to adopt a dog? Stop by and visit some friendly pups from Foothills Humane Society. Red Bell Run will also have ponies you can read to! Other local organizations, including St. Luke’s Hospital, Polk County Public Libraries, FENCE, Foothills Gymnastics, Steps to Hope, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of WNC will have booths set up with children’s crafts and activities.
PacJAM will perform traditional music on the Community Stage from 11am to noon. Local students will play instruments such as guitar, mandolin, banjo, fiddle, and ukulele. From 1-2:30pm, Rush Mixed Martial Arts will offer demos and lessons on the Community Stage.
Join our performers in strutting your stuff down Melrose Avenue during the parade! Gather in front of the Congregational Church at 12:15pm. The parade to TFAC begins at 12:30pm. This year’s parade theme is Community Helpers – feel free to wear a costume! The 2022 Melrose Strut is dedicated to two board members we lost in 2021, Justin Lawrence and Drew Brannon.
After all of those amazing activities, you will be hungry! Local churches and groups will offer a variety of eating choices to keep you going at the food court. This year’s vendors include the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Kiwanis, and Midway Baptist Church.
While you’re having so much fun, don’t forget to snap some photos and enter them into the Super Saturday Youth Photo Contest! There will be prizes in three categories: Most Fun, Most Creative, and Best Essence of Super Saturday. Youth 18 years old and younger may submit photos the week following Super Saturday to supersaturdayphotos@gmail.com. Include your full name, age, phone number, and address. The photo contest is in memory of Mara Smith, long-time supporter and photographer of Super Saturday. Children’s Theater Festival retains the right to use all images for electronic and print promotions.
Children’s Theater Festival’s presentation of Super Saturday is supported by grants from the Mary F. Kessler Fund at the Polk County Community Foundation. We are also grateful to the Polk County Community Foundation for administering the George and Ester Moore Endowment Fund, Arthur M. and Frances H. Wilhelm Fund, and the Dixie and Harry Evans Charitable Endowment Fund.
Super Saturday is on Saturday, March 19. For more information, visit our website, tryonsupersaturday.com, or follow us on Facebook. If you would like to volunteer, please call 828-782-3080 or email supersaturdayinfo@gmail.com.
