There comes a point in life, after you’ve had more than a few rides on the roller coaster of life, when you walk by a mirror and scare yourself. “Who in the heck is THAT?” you exclaim. 

A friend walked by with her pooch one morning, and said she was feeling that way. Who is that woman? What happened? Where did time go? Now, all I could see was an elegant, talented, vibrant woman in front of me—but realized underneath it all, our worries tend to be pretty much the same. 

I admitted that I felt the same way a lot of days, especially these past two years (yet felt pretty grateful to roll out of bed, albeit slower.) I told her that sometimes, I find myself forgetting what I was doing next…My advice is this: just forget to worry about that face in the mirror. Aside from expensive plastic surgery and remodeling work, it’s going to just be what it is. Just slap on Maybelline and hope for the best.  And keep on wondering… what was that thing you were going to do next…..?

The Saluda Arts Festival is coming back this year on May 21 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. as Saluda’s historic downtown strives to cultivate and promote its heritage in the arts, and features 85 local/regional artists. Volunteers are needed to work one of four shifts the day of the event; jobs include section leaders and assistants, festival information tent, parking supervisors, golf cart drivers, and clean-up. Saluda Community Land Trust (SCLT) is busy year-round with land  conservation, trails, projects and more: visit saludaclt.org or call 828-749-1560 to learn more. The Saluda Winter Market is every other Saturday through March at Saluda Center, 64 Greenville Street from 9 a.m -12 p.m. 

Community potluck and bingo night is February 28, 6 p.m. at Saluda Center. A main dish is provided; bring a side dish to share! 

The Saluda Pop-Up Pantry is Tuesday from 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Saluda Presbyterian Church, 54 Carolina Avenue (behind Saluda Library). Masks/safety precautions are taken.
