Landrum Fire rescues man from the top of a crane

LANDRUM—Landrum Fire and Rescue crews responded Saturday to a rescue where they had to get an injured man off the top of a crane. 

Landrum firefighters say the call from workers on scene said a man was on top of the crane and received an injury to his hand from being caught in the crane cable. 

Landrum firefighter Chase Dotson and Captain Calem Upton climbed on top of the crane platform to access the patient, according to fire reports. The patient was alert, oriented and communicating, according to reports. 

Firefighter Dotson and Captain Upton began assessing the patient’s injury and administering patient care, according to reports. 

The patient was secured and with rope, carabiners, webbing and a rescue harness, Lt. Shannon Dotson assisted in getting the patient down the ladder.

The patient was safely rescued and Rescue 11 and EMS took over the patient care and transported him to the hospital, according to Landrum Fire reports.
