County at 120 cases and 5 deaths

POLK COUNTY—Polk County gained 13 cases of COVID-19 since last week, according to the latest county figures.

As of last Thursday, the county had 107 cases and over the weekend the NCDHHS put the county at 114 cases. County officials said Monday there were 13 additional cases, which put the county’s total count at 120.

There have been 5 deaths in the county, with 4 of those in the Saluda zip code and the recent 5^th death last week being in the Tryon zip code, according to the NCDHHS.

As of last Thursday, Polk County had completed a total of 2,440 tests, with 2,178 of those tests being negative and 109 tests pending. There were 81 positive people presumed recovered as of last Thursday.

Cases are rising all over the country with South Carolina being one of the most rapidly growing states.

South Carolina has had 71,213 confirmed cases and 1,147 deaths, according to the South Carolina Department of Department of Health and Environmental Control.

The new cases per day has grown exponentially since March, according to the state’s website.

Spartanburg County has had 3,114 cases with 63 deaths, according to the DHEC.

Greenville County has had 8,571 cases with 132 deaths, according to DHEC.

There have been 59 cases confirmed in the Landrum zip code and another 59 cases confirmed in the Campobello zip code, according to DHEC.

In North Carolina, there have been 102,861 confirmed cases with 1,642 deaths.

As of Tuesday, Buncombe County had 1,223 cases with 41 deaths; Henderson County had 1,137 cases with 52 deaths; Rutherford County had 472 cases with 11 deaths and Transylvania County had 96 case with 1 death, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

As of Tuesday, Polk County’s rate of cases per 10,000 people was ranked higher than most western North Carolina counties. Polk County’s rate was 57, compared to Buncombe County’s rate of 47, according to the NCDHHS. Henderson and Rutherford County’s were higher than Polk, however, with Henderson County’s rate at 97 and Rutherford County’s rate at 71, according to the NCDHHS.
