50 people presumed recovered; 138 tests pending

POLK COUNTY—As of Monday morning, Polk County had reached 73 cases of COVID-19, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

On Friday afternoon, the county reported 69 total cases, with 50 presumed recovered and 138 tests still pending.

Polk County has had 1,288 negative tests and had completed 1,519 total tests. As of Friday, the county had completed 351 drive-thru tests.

The county remains at 4 deaths from the virus.

Of the county’s positive cases since late March, most have been female. Of the positives, 59.4 percent have been female and 40.6 have been male, according to the county’s data released on Friday.

Most of the positives have been in people age 65 and older, at about 30 of the county’s total positive cases. The next highest age group has been in people age 25-49 years old, at between 15-20 of the county’s cases, with the between 10-15 of the cases being in people age 50-64 years old. About 5 of the cases have been in people age 18-24 and there have been a few in people age 0-17, according to the county’s data released Friday.

As of Monday afternoon, North Carolina had 63,484 laboratory-confirmed cases, which was a 1,342 increase since Sunday. There are currently 843 people hospitalized throughout the state, which was a decrease from 890 people hospitalized on Sunday, according to the NCDHHS.

As of Monday, Buncombe County had 574 cases and 36 deaths; Henderson County had 593 cases and 49 deaths; Rutherford County had 291 cases and 7 deaths and Transylvania County had 22 cases and 1 death.

All Polk County’s 4 deaths have been from the Saluda zip code.

Of Polk County’s positive cases, 23 have been from the Saluda zip code; 20 from the Columbus zip code; 16 from the Tryon zip code and 17 from the Mill Spring zip code, according to the NCDHHS.
