”Bright Star” opens Thursday night

“Bright Star”, Tryon Little Theater’s musical production of the season, opens at the Tryon Fine Arts Center on Thursday, March 5. Written by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, the musical is set in the mountains of North Carolina.

Directed by Dan Harvey with musical direction from Ben Chumley, the show won the 2016 Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Broadway Musical. It has been described as a “heartwarming and crowd-pleasing musical…with a sunny disposition and a Southern Gothic flavor”. Set in 1946, with flashbacks to 1923, it’s a deeply emotional story, with beautiful melodies and powerfully moving performances. 

The show runs March 5 to 8, with three evening performances starting at 7:30 p.m., and two matinees, Saturday, March 7 starts at 2:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 8 at 3:00 p.m. Opening night reception on March 5 at 6:30 p.m.
