Horse from Campobello euthanized as 4th victims of attacks in Upstate

CAMPOBELLO—Horse attacks in the area have not stopped. 

A fourth horse was stabbed this week in Campobello. 

The Spartanburg County Animal Control confirmed Thursday that another horse was possibly cut and had to be euthanized. 

The Spartanburg County Environmental Enforcement sent a press release on Thursday morning saying an injured horse was reported around 6 p.m. Wednesday on Patterson Road in Campobello. The horse had one cut on its lower leg and a puncture wound under its midsection. A veterinarian said the horse suffered the injuries 24 to 48 hours prior to being examined. The horse had to be put down because of its injuries. 

Spartanburg County Animal Control said Wednesday’s discovery is the second confirmed incident of lacerations and punctures to a horse in Spartanburg County in the last few weeks. Greenville County Animal Control has also confirmed two horses with similar injuries there. 

Horse owner Craig Howell, who had his horse attacked is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for the attack. 

Officers in both Spartanburg and Greenville County are investigating and Polk County is active in the investigation as well. No horses have been attacked in Polk County.

Attacks are believed to have occurred during daylight and night hours. Horse owners are urged to keep their horses near barns and install cameras if possible. So far, there are no videos of the attacks.
