Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The Saluda Historic Depot Theater Troupe is preparing for their annual play Saturday November 30. Entitled “Abenezer Scrooge” A Ghostly Mountain Christmas Carol. This is an adaptation from Charles Dickens story at “A Christmas Carol”, written by Saluda writer Corinne Gerwe. The event will be held at the Party Place in Saluda.

At the time “A Christmas Carol” was written it was a tradition to read ghost stories at Christmas hence all the spirits included in the play and the adaptation has the same theme with entertaining variations.

Local children and adults conjure up visions of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come that will not only give Scrooge a renewed joyful Christmas Spirit but will help yours too! As Gerwe says, “From Scrooge and Jacob Marley we learn that being a mean-spirited bean counter is no way to live. From Tiny Tim’s family we learn that loyalty and kindness and warmth are not dependent on money. The ghosts teach Scrooge a valuable lesson that he actually takes to heart and counteracts his “bah humbug” approach to life. We all need to be reminded of this lesson.”

The Party Place & Event Center is at 221 Friendship Church Rd. in Saluda. Performance will start at 7:00 p.m.

“The Young Actors Krew (YAK) of the Theater Troupe brings together citizens of the community who are keen to be involved in the performing arts. Our local troupe provides a forum for students to learn and perform locally rather than have to travel to be in a production.

In an effort to make YAK an ongoing effort we are fortunate that our first Patron of the Arts, Hilda Pace. She has donated the Mountain Page Community Center, which is located on her land,” says Corinne. Work to remodel the building began this summer by volunteers and through donations from local citizens and businesses. Net proceeds from this play will go toward play expenses and toward improvements in our own playhouse.
