After a complete search of the residence, no one was located inside the house.

The fire occurred at 134 Jackson Street Extension.

The 911 call was received at 1:43 p.m. and dispatched at 1:44 p.m. Wednesday.

Tryon Fire Chief Geoffrey Tennant said the first units, including the Tryon Fire and Police Departments, were on scene at 1:51 p.m.

Fire Departments from Columbus, Saluda and Landrum also assisted, as well as the Polk County EMS and the Polk County Rescue Squad.

“We were told there might be two people in the house,” Tennant said, but no one was at home.

Tennant said the house is not a total loss, but the inside is damaged, mainly from smoke and water damage, as well as damage to the basement.

“The inside of the house is pretty heavily damaged,” Tennant said Thursday morning. “Most of the damage was on the main floor.”

Local officials are still investigating the cause of the fire. Tennant said the Polk County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the case.

The fire was quickly extinguished, with the fire being under control at 3:01 p.m.

The American Red Cross has been contacted to help the family, Tennant said.
