A grant awarded to the Unity in the Community Organization from the Polk County Community Foundation is giving Polk County and Landrum area youth a chance to learn, understand and appreciate the many uses for herbs and plants, plus a glimpse into world of bees and beekeeping. The goal is to provide the youth with an opportunity to understand and appreciate the environment and how we can have a positive impact now, as well as generations to come. This project, along with other educational and fun activities is planned for the 2019 Summer Enrichment Camp, June 24-28, for Polk County and Landrum area youth from ages 8-17. 

Cecila Miller, Inman SC, will serve as Instructor and Coordinator of the Herb Garden and Beekeeping Project. With Miller’s many interests and talents, she’s sometime referred to as The Coffee Lady, Tractor Girl, or Farmer CeCe. Her passion for coffee led her to take a trip to the country of Nicaragua, to learn more about coffee and how it’s grown and how it impacts the people in that area, and plans to make another trip, back to Nicaragua, in 2020.  

CoffeeLady31 is the trademark name and business which offers fresh-roasted coffee, hand-crafted candies, a plethora of herbs and herbal products. After a total of 25 years in lab management and quality, and three years in education, Cecelia felt the pull to launch out into business again. A pastor’s wife, a chemistry degree, a certified quality auditor, a licensed minister, a studying herbalist and aromatherapist, a master gardener, and a truckload of challenges and opportunities continue to graft her into the woman she is today. Miller says she wants to share her knowledge and skills to others, especially the younger generations.
