Guenter Albert Max Panoscha

Columbus, North Carolina- Guenter Albert Max Panoscha, age 93, died peacefully on Monday March 18, 2019 at his home at Tryon Estates.
A native of Duisburg, Germany, he apprenticed as a machinist before serving in the German submarine service during WWII. After discharge from the Navy, he completed his mechanical/industrial engineering education in Duisburg. Guenter emigrated to Tryon in 1957 with his wife Marianne to begin an engineering job at Bommer Industries. He was devoted to his family, enjoyed building furniture and cabinets for the family home, and loved to travel and hike the local mountains. He was active with the Congregational Church and the Boy Scouts. After 34 years, he retired from Bommer Industries in 1991 as senior vice president.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years Marianne Panoscha of Columbus, his daughter Rita Panoscha, his son Juergen Panoscha, his daughter in law Mairi Kidd, and grandchildren Ian and Nora Panoscha, all of Portland, Oregon.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no memorial service, but a private family remembrance will be held at a later date.
