Cherry blossoms, pink magnolias and yellow branches dance against blue: spring has sprung this week; for winter-weary spirits, a lift is in order. Happy Spring!  

Bring forth the lawn mower, the tiller, the pruners. Peacefully, I mosey through the backyard on a mossy-green ribbon path winding through rustling beech leaves, raking a few up for the compost heap: the breeze chilly, but sun warm on the skin.  

Pikachu Cat poses gracefully on an oak stump, but silly River Dog just sticks his soft round snout through wood railing, watching from his high perch, surveying all he can take in with that one eye of his. I know he’s guarding his yard workers!  

The resident bluebirds stay busy—luckily, Pikachu’s more interested in moles and voles that bedevil my yard, ignoring the blue-coat tenants. I’ve thanked her for a mouse-free winter in the house. After puttering, I offer River his choice of afternoon treats: a whole dessert tray of offerings for His Majesty’s selection. (thank you, Carol!)  

A gift bag stuffed full of dog goodies had appeared by magic at the front door earlier. A dog could not have better friends—talk about having a fan club, that dog sure does!

Sing! With the Saluda Community Singers on Tuesdays, 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Saluda Presbyterian Church.  

 

There’ll be a community potluck and bingo night at Saluda Center, March 25, 6:00 p.m. Bring a favorite dish to share!

Saluda’s Historic Depot is open Tuesday-Saturday 10:30 to 5:00, Sunday 12:00 to 4:00. Donations can be made by mailing to Saluda Historic Depot, P.O. Box 990, Saluda, NC 28773 or SaludaHistoricDepot.com. 

 

A BBQ fundraiser will be held for Mason Mintz, son of Preston and Valerie Mintz, at Saluda Fire Department on March 30, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  

 

You can still get your pet’s/favorite person’s or your name engraved on a brick paver for Pace Park! Pavers for Pace Park is a community fund-raiser to support the completion of installing public restrooms for a “pocket park” on Main Street.
