Leaving Saluda Library this afternoon, a lone dandelion gifted a bright-yellow smile despite gray overcast skies. Sometimes the heart needs dandelion smiles and a hint of spring.  

Last Friday, I underwent hand/wrist surgery in Asheville: no coffee, food, makeup, or even water allowed before the deed. A friend made sure I got there in one piece without chickening out: although by the time they wheeled me in the surgery suite for my date with the orthopedic surgeon, I was ready to bail (once you look at all those scalpels and things that cut/dice/slice, high-anxiety raises its head).  

Those wily nurses pretty much had me tied down with IV lines and a fashion designer’s nightmare of an embarrassing gown that’d expose a bare south end heading west if I’d run screaming. I’m sure others would have joined in if they’d see THAT sight!  

Over the weekend, kind-hearted folks dropped off easy-fix-&-eat food: kale soup, chicken pot pie, bakery scones: fare I could manage one-handed. It takes a village, doesn’t it? That sort of lifted my spirits a tad: somebody else’s cooking tastes mighty good when you’re down for the count. River didn’t offer his, but I expect he might have shared if I’d been desperate. Pikachu just gave the evil eye because her bowl was empty.   

To my credit, I haven’t plastered surgery pictures all over social media, nor do I plan to. I figure there’s enough too-much-information already: so I’ll just leave you, Dear Reader, with a more humorous image in your mind: River Dog, head cocked, intently watching with one eye, perching in the bathroom doorway, with me one-handedly cursing/ wrapping/wrangling plastic bags around the bandage with wide tape all around, so I could take a shower without getting the dressing wet.   

There are times you JUST don’t want to share everything!
