Special Cases: Coming full circle at Forever Dream

The four kittens that were left at a Landrum establishment that eventually became Lennie’s kids all received tree names, like Spruce, Cedar and such.

After all their needs were tended to, they were fostered by Yvonne, of Paws, Prayers and Promises.

As of this writing, Oak, a medium-haired orange tabby, is the only one left at 9 weeks of age. At a risk of being redundant, he’s cute as a button.

If you ever get a chance to get into P3’s in Landrum, check their adoption board — it will blow you away.

Verna Wilkins, from Forever Dream, contacted me to tell me that Everett, the 17-and-a-half-year-old I wrote about a few weeks ago, was adopted.

“That’s wonderful news, Verna,” I said. “You’ve made my day.”

“We found out his real name is Teddy,” Verna went on. “When I used it to call him, his ears perked up.”

“Thanks again Verna, for telling me and for being there.”

While at Bonnie Brae’s, paying for an ultrasound for a 10-year-old pit mix named Cane that I had promised to handle, in walked a couple with a cute old dog in the gentleman’s arms.

I had just been discussing with the staff how pleased I was that Everett (now Teddy) was adopted.

“We know,” I was told. “He used to be a client here and his new owners are coming in for a check up and to finalize the adoption papers.”

“Are you Lennie?” Jeanne Peters asked me.

“Yes Ma’am.”

“This is my husband, Dennis Crain, and our new family member, Teddy.”

I thanked the both of them profusely and kissed little Teddy between the eyes as I fought to hold back tears.

“He’s 17-and-a-half years old,” Dennis told me. “Would you believe it?”

“He loves Dennis.” Jeanne said. “He sticks to him like glue.”

As she was saying this, Dennis was lovingly cradling Teddy in his arms, and I swear they both had a smile of contentment on their faces. I went over to give Teddy another kiss, and this time, I couldn’t hold back the tears.

I walk among giants with all the rescues and their supporters in my midst. God bless all involved in Teddy’s outcome and all the others you have helped.

Thanks for listening.
