Farm taxation expert and certified public accountant Larry Swartz, of Tryon, headed a dinner and workshop on Oct. 25 at the Polk County Cooperative Extension.
Following the meal, Swartz spoke to local Polk County farmers about taxation topics such as Schedule F, incorporation of farms and allowable deductions and depreciations that are unique to farmers and agri-businesses. Over 30 farmers from Polk and surrounding counties attended the event and not only learned new ways to save money for their farms, but got specific questions answered.
Swartz began his business career with the firm of Deloitte and Touche, one of the nation’s largest CPA firms, before starting his own accounting practice.
Swartz has been active in the Polk County community for many years, with a primary emphasis on the chamber of commerce, where he served as director and treasurer for 10 years. He was one of the founders of the Blue Ridge BBQ Festival, sponsored by the Carolina Foothills Chamber of Commerce.
Larry has been honored by the Carolina Foothills Chamber of Commerce as a “Volunteer of the Year” and has been inducted into the Chamber of Commerce “Hall of Fame.” He has also served on numerous committees and boards of directors of a wide variety of business and Christian organizations over the years.
He and his wife, Jeanene, reside in Tryon.
