Flutist Angela Massey will give the Tryon Concert Association’s first TGIF concert at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at Tryon Fine Arts Center.

Massey will be accompanied by Miles Massicotte.

Massey maintains an active career as a solo artist, chamber artist, orchestral musician and instructor. She has been recognized for her “beautiful and enchanting” playing by Jeanne Baxtresser, former principal flute of the New York Philharmonic. Baxtresser has praised Massey for her “pure and lovely tone” and “impeccable intonation.”

A frequent guest of orchestras, choral societies and chamber groups, Massey has performed in many concert halls across the United States and Europe. She currently holds a flute and piccolo position with the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, and is the artistic director of the Astralis Chamber Ensemble, an ensemble of young musicians.

Massey is a champion of new music, having commissioned many new works and worked with contemporary composers.

Massey has received many degrees and awards in music, including a certificate in advanced flute studies from Carnegie Mellon University, Master of Music in flute performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and Bachelor of Music in flute performance from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Her awards include recognition in the Alexander and Buono International Competition, Frank Bowen Competition, Myrna Brown Competition and the Gheorghe Dima International Music Competition in Romania.

Massay plays a Brannen flute with a Lafin headjoint and piccolo built by Jim Keefe.
