Polk County’s Edwards notches another hat trick as Wolverines soccer team routs Avery

Polk County rebounded Monday from a weekend loss at Highlands with a convincing 8-0 win over Avery in a Western Highlands Conference boys soccer match at G.M. Tennant Stadium.

The Wolverines scored three times in the opening 10 minutes, built a 5-0 halftime lead and coasted through the second half to improve to 9-9-1 overall, 5-1 in WHC play.

Avery dropped to 1-11, 1-6.

Isaac Edwards had his second straight three-goal game to lead Polk, with Grayson Jones scoring twice and Matias Akers, Jack Tinkler and Clark Phipps each adding a goal.

Jones and Nicolas Lopez each had two assists, with Mateo Mendoza and Jesus Avellaneda also adding assists.

Jonah Wyatt had two saves for Polk County, which will return to G.M. Tennant at 6 p.m. on Wednesday to host Mitchell in another WHC match.

Edwards also had three goals Saturday as Polk County dropped a 4-3 decision at Highlands. Jones and Lopez each recorded assists in the nonconference defeat.
