An act of Mother Nature cleaned up
Published 8:00 am Wednesday, October 3, 2018
A tree recently fell near our driveway.
When I discovered it, a neighbor had already called for help, and the department came and cleaned the road so that it was passable (thank you very much).
Later that evening, I went back to the mailbox and saw that more work was needed to make it look better.
The next day, I called [the town of Tryon] and left a message. I later found out that I should have called Zach Ollis [Tryon town manager].
Nevertheless, the next day, I heard the noise of large machinery. I looked out and walked down the driveway, and greeted the gentleman.
“Good morning, I’m Joan Sheppard.”
“What do you need?” he asked.
I explained that our bank had been mangled, the ditch stopped up and our mailbox cracked.
He said, “Don’t worry, we’ll fix it.”
And yes, he did.
The bank was smoothed, grass was planted and straw put over it, the ditch was opened, and a new mailbox was put up. The debris of the tree was hauled away.
Our many thanks to the Tryon Street Department for their prompt service.
