Tryon Painters and Sculptors will hold a second fundraiser as part of a celebration of 50 years as a gallery in Tryon.

The open juried show will be displayed beginning this coming Saturday through Saturday, Oct. 13.

Over 100 local artists contributed works appropriate to the theme “For the Love of Horses,” including any aspect of equestrian lifestyle, from attire to pastoral scenery to activities, or any abstract representation.

Prizes include cash or gift certificates, and a Viewers Choice Award, for a total value exceeding $2,000. First prize will be $500, second prize is $350 and third prize is $250.

Prizes will be announced at the show opening, from 5 and 7 p.m. Saturday.

The show is juried by C. Allen Coleman, an artist, curator and seasoned creative professional who has administered approximately 200 exhibitions and has been involved in over 400 exhibits, performances and presentations. He has degrees in art and art education from Brevard College and Appalachian State University, with graduate and post-graduate work at New York University.

Many different local companies and organizations have donated prize money for the event.

In Tryon Painters and Sculptors’ August fundraiser, over $1,500 was raised. The organization expects the upcoming art show show to generate about the same amount, or more.

The gallery’s goal for the 50th anniversary is to raise $50,000 in order to pay off the mortgage and make some improvements to the gallery.

For additional information about this event as well as upcoming shows, classes, workshops and demonstrations, people may visit Tryon Painters & Sculptors gallery and studios at 78 N. Trade St. in downtown Tryon, or its website, at tryonpaintersandsculptors.com.
