The American Academy of Equine Art will present its fall exhibition in Tryon this month.

The show will open from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Tryon Depot. The public is welcome.

The A.A.E.A.’s 38th Annual Fall Juried Exhibition represents over 50 pieces of work from equestrian painters and sculptors in North America. The show runs through Saturday, Sept. 29.

It will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, or by appointment by calling 828-817-3784.

The academy was founded in Middleburg, Virginia, in 1980 by 10 professional artists. With headquarters now located in Lexington, Kentucky, the organization has grown to a membership of nearly 200 from 38 states and provinces. All officers of the academy will attend the show, as well as a number of exhibitors, including a number from the Carolinas.

Among the academy membership past and present are Anthony Alonso, Richard Stone Reeves, Henry Koehler, Marilyn Newmark, Gwen Reardon, Sam Savitt, Michelle Grant, Booth Malone, Kathleen Friedenberg and Kay Witherspoon.

The majority of its members are professionals, and many of them teach through the academy’s yearly workshops.

Awards and prizes will be announced during the opening reception, which is open to the public.

Next year, the show will return to Middleburg, Virginia.
