Sharon Kay McEntire Hinsdale

Sharon Kay McEntire Hinsdale, 66, (May 2, 1952 — June 28, 2018) of Green Creek, died at home of inoperable synovial sarcoma.
She is preceded in death by parents, Quinton and Mary McEntire.
She leaves behind her husband of 48 years, Jim Hinsdale; daughter, Summer Dawn Fountain (Michael) of Mobile, Alabama; and son, Shannon Gareth Hinsdale (Brittany) of Walton, Kentucky. Also, seven grandchildren survive her, Michael Chaffin, Haley Chaffin, Josie Chaffin, Elizabeth Hinsdale, Reuben Hinsdale, Evan Hinsdale, and Waylon Hinsdale; and three step-granddaughters, BreAnna Fountain, Brooklyn Fountain and Blakleigh Fountain. She also leaves behind two sisters, Rhonda Forster and nephew Will Forster of Inman, South Carolina, and Andrea Webber and nephew Quinton Weber of Green Creek.
Kay graduated from Polk Central High School in 1970, then earned an Associate of Arts from Isothermal Community College in Spindale, North Carolina, and Bachelor and Masters of Arts degrees from Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights, Kentucky.
During a varied professional life, she worked as a substitute teacher, assistant girls’ basketball coach, Hoover sales rep, advertising salesperson for the Vevay, Indiana radio station, softball umpire, and as a realtor for the last 32 years in Kentucky, and then North and South Carolina.
An excellent athlete, she played basketball on two conference championship teams at Polk Central, Isothermal’s first women’s team, and as a grandmother in an over-50 men’s league in Boone County, Kentucky. An outstanding slow-pitch softball player, she pitched in several co-ed and women’s leagues, and one minor-league World Series.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 30, 2018, at Petty Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2018, at Mill Creek Church of the Brethren conducted by the Rev. Steven Abe. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
