Friendship Council annual picnic June 2

Published 8:00 am Wednesday, May 30, 2018

The Thermal Belt Friendship Council invites everyone to join them at their annual community Friendship Picnic on Saturday from 4 to 7  p.m., in the cabin at Harmon Field.

This event began in 1986 to celebrate the work done and the friendships made as the community came together to strategize a response to a rally by the Ku Klux Klan.

The picnic is a potluck, with participants asked to bring a dish to serve eight. Tableware, beverages, and grilled hot dogs will be provided by the group.

There will be food, fellowship, raffles, entertainment by Polk County High School musicians and a pinata for the children.

One of the strengths of the Friendship Council is the opportunities to make friends regardless of common community divisions such as race, age, income, religious affiliation, and specific interest groups, organizers said.

The council is looking for new members to join.
