First-half flurry carries South Stokes past Polk in third-round soccer battle

Madison Green scored three goals Tuesday to lead South Stokes to a 6-2 victory over Polk County in a 1A girls soccer third-round playoff match in Walnut Cove. The Sauras (14-5) built a 4-0 lead in the first half before Polk tallied to make it 4-1 at the break. Green added her third goal in the second half as South Stokes sealed the win. Polk County ends its season with a 12-8 record. South Stokes, the second seed in the 1A West bracket, advances to a state quarterfinal match against Lincoln Charter.
