Asheville Christian fought back from a 4-0 deficit Monday, putting together two big rallies in the final innings to hand Polk County Middle a 9-6 setback in baseball action at Polk County Recreation Complex.

The Lions (2-2) scored four runs in the top of the fifth to even the score, then added five runs in the sixth to grab a 9-4 advantage.

With the complex lights on as the game moved near 7 p.m., Polk Middle (2-3) staged a final rally of its own. The Wolverines loaded the bases on a walk to Lawson Carter, an Angus Weaver single and a walk to Elliott Whiteside. With two outs, an ACA error on Evan Jones’ grounder and a walk to Coble Cameron pushed across two runs for Polk and put the tying run on base.

But ACA got the final out of the inning on an infield grounder to end the game.

Polk Middle scored once in the first inning as singles by Jones and Jackson Beiler and a walk to Chan Barber loaded the bases, with Jones scoring on a Carter walk to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead.

Polk then exploded for three runs in the bottom of the fourth on a Jones RBI single and a Beiler two-run single to take a 4-0 lead.

Beiler finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Jones was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and Alex Tipton was 2-for-5 to lead the Wolverine attack, which also had hits from Barber and Weaver.

The Wolverines conclude their pre-spring break schedule on Thursday, traveling to Brevard Middle.

Wolverine Soccer Falls: Flat Rock opened a two-goal halftime lead and went on to post a 3-0 win Monday over Polk County Middle in a Blue Ridge Conference girls soccer match at Polk County.

The Wolverines (1-4) controlled play much of the first half, keeping the ball in the Flat Rock end of the field. But the Eagles (1-3-1) were able to put together a pair of breakaway opportunities to produce both goals.

Polk Middle is back in action on Wednesday, traveling to Brevard Middle for its final game before spring break.
