Polk County Middle School’s offense came to life late in last week Thursday’s game at Hendersonville Middle, though it was not enough to avoid a 14-6 setback in Blue Ridge Conference play.
The Wolverines (0-2) trailed 9-0 early, but pushed across a run in the top of the third. Hendersonville answered with four runs for a 13-1 lead, but Polk Middle responded with a run in the fourth and four runs in the fifth.
Carly Lawter finished 3-for-3 and scored two runs to lead the Polk Middle offense. Jaylan Brady was 2-for-3, Keeliegh Bradley as 1-for-2 and Amberlynn Scruggs finished 1-for-1, with three walks and two runs scored.
Polk Middle traveled Monday to face Brevard Middle before returning for its home opener on Thursday against Rugby Middle. That game is set for 4:30 p.m. at Polk County Recreation Complex.
