LANDRUM — Landrum police stopped a running suspect yesterday as he fled Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

The suspect, Kyle Scoggins, was fleeing nine outstanding warrants for receiving stolen goods and larceny.

Landrum Police Chief Tim Edgens said the suspect was picked up by a white SUV on South Howard Avenue, between Landrum and Campobello.

“The officers conducted a felony car stop,” Edgens said.

During a felony car stop, the officers have the suspect put their hands out the window and then exit the vehicle.

The traffic stop occurred near Lynn Mower and Chain Saw Sales and Kent’s Restaurant & Ice Cream between 4:30 and 5 p.m. on Monday. Edgens said the suspect surrendered peacefully.

According to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, deputies had attempted to serve a warrant for Scoggins at a home on East Frontage Road near I-26 earlier in the day. The suspect ran from deputies, and fled to West Frontage Road.

Edgens advised officials at Landrum area schools. O.P. Earle Elementary School, Landrum Middle School and Campobello-Gramling Elementary School immediately placed the schools on lockout. Landrum High School was on lockdown as law enforcement searched for the suspect.

According to a District One Schools spokesperson, the lockout was lifted around 1:30 p.m. Monday. Edgens said by that time, officers had the suspect isolated, and it was safe for officials to lift the lockout orders.

Scoggins is being held by Spartanburg County Sheriff Deputies on 11 charges, including the nine outstanding warrants and three for fleeing law enforcement officers.
