Polk School Board recognized for School Board Appreciation Month

COLUMBUS – During the Jan. 8 meeting of the Polk County Board of Education, the Polk County Schools administration and staff recognized the Polk County Board of Education during School Board Appreciation Month in January. The recognition stated “School board members exemplify local citizen control and decision making in education. They volunteer hundreds of hours and an immeasurable amount of energy to assure that our schools are providing the best education possible for the children of our community.” 

In other business the board adopted a budget amendment to provide additional revenues for transportation, including an increase for drivers, and adopted the 2018-2019 budget calendar. 

Curriculum and Instruction Director Ronette Dill provided an overview of Polk County School’s version of the North Carolina Department of Instruction’s Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) called CSI. Polk Central Principal Jan Crump, School Counselor Ashley Blackwell, and Title I Intervention Specialist Brooke Benfield presented information about the school’s CSI model, process elements, and progress. The CSI program goal is to identify students who have special needs and get resources to help them.
