I was introduced to the Thermal Belt Outreach Ministry this past summer by my neighbor, Carolyne Rostick. She heads the summer “Feed a Kid” program there. I had the privilege of working with some great volunteers over the summer (including Carolyne’s awesome children, Virginia and Neil). We laughed and got acquainted as we packed grocery bags for needy children.

I decided to stay on for the school year and began volunteering weekly in the Feed a Kid program and food pantry. Vennie and Wendy in the food pantry area (and all the terrific volunteers) faithfully show up week after week to keep things running smoothly and ensure that no one in Polk County goes hungry.

Barb Powell is a great volunteer coordinator and is so easy to work with. George Alley isn’t just a boss who sits behind a desk. I’ve seen him working in the garden, cleaning up around the yard and unloading boxes that bring the food that’s distributed daily to those in need.

I have worked for several non-profit organizations through the years, but Thermal Belt Outreach Ministry is the finest, by far! It’s a “well-oiled machine” with people who support and care for one another as co-workers (and friends) with one common goal – help those in need. I am looking forward to seeing everyone and beginning a new year there after the holidays!
