Limestone College Chorus to perform at First Baptist Tryon Sunday

Oct.17th was the 500th anniversary of what is considered the beginning of the Protestant Reformation. A monk, Martin Luther, nailed what is known as the “95 Theses” upon the church door, making his concerns known in a very public way – a way that eventually influenced religious, economic, artistic, educational and social practices and attitudes for centuries.
In recognition and celebration of this historical event the Limestone College and Community Chorus has been performing selections from the Renaissance and early Baroque periods this fall. They will bring these tunes as well as Christmas carols and holiday songs to First Baptist Church, Tryon this coming Sunday, Dec. 3 at 5 p.m.
The program will include Martin Luther’s hymn tune, “A Mighty Fortress is Our God,” and H. S. Bach’s “Praise Ye the Name of the Lord” from Cantata 142. Then the singers will ease the audience into the holiday season with carols including “Silent Night” and “Good Christian Men Rejoice,” as well as modern holiday songs including, Melchior’s Carol and a fun anthem called “Christmastime.” The director of the Chorus and the Vocal Ensemble is Dr. Gena E. Poovey, and the accompanist for the evening is Dr. David B. Thompson.
The public is invited to share in this special event.
