TRYON – The Carolina Foothills Chamber of Commerce has eliminated the position held by Executive Director Janet Sciacca for 18 years. In an announcement emailed to the Bulletin on Monday, Nov. 20, Chamber President Kathy Toomey said the decision was based on economic measures.

Toomey said the year had been a difficult one including having to make difficult decisions such as canceling the annual barbeque.

“No decision has been harder than the one to eliminate the position of Executive Director because greatly reduced income has required us to implement strict economy measures,” Toomey stated, while praising Sciacca’s “dedication and devotion” the Chamber’s members and the area’s communities.

Christina Feagan will handle staffing the Chamber office and performing many administrative tasks. The email said Feagan is familiar with many aspects of Chamber operations, but asked that people be patient as she learns tasks that will be new to her. The email also asked for volunteers.

The Bulletin contacted both Toomey and Sciacca and both declined to comment further.
