Saluda had highest voter turnout at 40 percent

POLK COUNTY – Even though Saluda has the lowest number of registered voters, the city’s residents came out for Tuesday’s election in the highest percentage out of all three Polk County towns, with a voter turnout rate of 40.45 percent, according to the Polk County Board of Elections.

Tryon had 24.72 percent voter turnout and Columbus had 20.9 percent voter turnout.

The municipal election was held on Tuesday, Nov. 7.

Saluda has 539 registered voters and 218 placed votes.

Tryon has 1,493 registered voters with 369 placing votes.

Columbus has 782 registered voters, with 164 placing votes.

In total, the municipalities have a total of 2,814 registered voters, with a total of 751 casting votes. The total election turnout for all three towns was 26.69 percent, according to the board of elections.

Unofficial election results were determined Tuesday night after the polls closed at 7:30 p.m. with a couple of contests being close and one still not decided.

The official canvassing of votes, which will make them official, is scheduled for next Friday, Nov. 17.
