TRYON – The 2016 merger of Hospice of Rutherford County and Hospice of the Carolina Foothills brought added success for the two non-profit organizations and they want to tell the community about it at an open house reception on Wednesday, August 30. 

Held at the historic Tryon Depot at 5:30 p.m., the reception will offer food catered by the Hare and Hound in Landrum. Speakers include Linda Edgerton, HOCF board president, Sherril Wingo, former board president, and Chief Executive Officer Rita Burch. 

“We wanted to invite community to a reception to update everyone about the successes we’ve had since the merge,” said Hospice Carolina Foothills Regional Director of Business Development Heidi Owen. She added that the merger brought together two non-profit organizations that have both been in existence for nearly 40 years.  

Owen said they expected approximately 100 or so people to attend the reception and are requesting an RSVP from anyone interested in attending. Rather than try to describe the successes, she hoped people come by the reception to hear the details. 

HOCF provides hospice and palliative care for homes and facilities. “We have two inpatient units in Forest City, N.C. and one in Landrum, S.C.,” said Owen. “We serve Rutherford, Polk, McDowell and Henderson counties in North Carolina and Greenville, Spartanburg and Cherokee counties in South Carolina.”  

With their staff of nurses, doctors, chaplains and volunteers, Hospice offers inpatient, residential and respite care for terminally ill patients as well as grief counseling and support for the families.
