The Polk County Historical Association will hold its monthly program Tuesday, August 1 at 2:30 p.m. at the Polk County History Museum located at 60 Walker St. in Columbus.

This month’s program will be presented by Mr. Frank, whose talk will include the prehistory of the Pacolet River Valley and human occupation here for the past 15,000 years.

Topics will include history of the large megafauna, as well as history of indigenous people, who entered the area while these large prehistoric animals were here. James Metcalf will continue the discussion of human occupation up until the arrival of Europeans.

Metcalf’s talk will also include discussion of the lithic (stone) technologies and the tools needed for survival, including spearheads, arrowheads, pottery, etc. Mr. Lee will also be on hand to evaluate any prehistoric artifact brought by those in attendance.
