March 31, 1955 – July 7, 2017

Paul, 62, was born the youngest of four boys and raised in Cedartown, GA. His parents, Raymond Spanjer, MD and Grace Ross Spanjer, MD, his wife Linda, and his nephew, Eric Spanjer, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his twin, Allen Spanjer of New York City, N.Y., and brothers and sisters in law, Robert (Bobby) and Gloria Spanjer of Indian Land, S.C., and Richard (Dick) and Patricia Spanjer of Dalton, Ga. Nephews, David, Michael, Timothy, Alexander and Andrew Spanjer and niece, Genevieve Spanjer Wright, and many great nieces and nephews also survive him.

An avid outdoorsman, Paul enthusiastically enjoyed rock climbing, kayaking, biking, and a good walk in the woods. He lived life to the fullest and influenced countless others through his years of teaching English at the University of Colorado in Boulder and teaching Colorado Outward Bound courses.

Paul was riding his bike in the North Carolina mountains that he loved so dearly when he was hit by a car. He fought to survive for a week, before succumbing to his injuries.

Paul’s ashes will be spread in some of his favorite outdoor places. A memorial service will be held in Cedartown, Ga. at a future date.
