Camera Club meeting to offer tips, pointers

For the last 15 months, about once a week, writer/photographer Vince Verrecchio, with camera in hand, has been sitting, standing, squatting, crawling, scooting, and waiting patiently at the Foothills Humane Society. At the next Spotlight Presentation of the Carolina Camera Club, he will share what he has learned from the many cats and dogs about photography, themselves, and his own beliefs about the soul of animals.

The program and club meeting will be Tuesday, June 13, 6:30 p.m. in the lower level gallery at the Tryon Fine Arts Center, 34 Melrose Avenue, Tryon. Non-members invited.

From an archive of thousands of his FHS photos, Verrecchio has selected favorites that show why most pet owners say their cats and dogs talk to them.

“If you want to photograph a black cat, or white dog, or other pet of any color,” says Verrecchio, “the ‘7 Cs of a Good Eye’ may change how you see and what you see. Don’t expect technical depth with tips and techniques but rather a simple way of looking at your pet through a lens.”

Camera and computer are not even in the list of content, composition, color, contrast, crop, concept, and creativity. As the basis for thoughts on creativity, Verrecchio offers what he’s learned over decades in advertising as a copywriter, art director, photographer, creative director, and agency owner.

After his half-hour presentation, camera club members will share examples of their work. Photographers interested in joining the club are invited to bring a flash drive with a few images to share.
