POLK COUNTY DISTRICT COURT RESULTS

In Polk County District Court on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, with Judge Athena Brooks presiding, 102 cases were heard. Some cases were continued, dismissed or sent to superior court.

The following persons were convicted of a crime:

Mandy Ann Bradley was convicted of level five driving while impaired and reckless driving to endanger. Bradley was sentenced to one day in jail with credit, 12 months unsupervised probation, a $100 fine and court costs.

Don Alvin Constance Jr. was convicted of level four driving while impaired. Constance was sentenced to 12 months unsupervised probation, 48 hours of community service, a $200 fine and court costs.

Charles Ervin Fousek was convicted of level five driving while impaired. Fousek was sentenced to 12 months unsupervised probation, 24 hours of community service, a $100 fine and court costs.

Karly Jean Higdon was convicted of simple possession of schedule II controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Higdon was sentenced to 12 months probation, a $100 fine and court costs.

Dino Altheus Hilliard was convicted of carrying a concealed weapon. Hilliard was sentenced to seven days in jail with credit and court costs.

Tiffany Renae Raburn was convicted of second-degree trespassing. Raburn was fined $50.

Starla Nicole Raines was convicted of level five driving while impaired. Raines was sentenced to 12 months unsupervised probation, 24 hours of community service, a $100 fine and court costs.

Christopher KY Ramsey was convicted of driving while license revoked-not impaired revocation. Ramsey was fined $50 and court costs.

Gerald Everett Rigler was convicted of failure to appear on misdemeanor. Rigler was fined $50 and court costs.

Anthony Hunter Swink was convicted of failure to appear. Swink was sentenced to four days in jail with credit and court costs.

Austin John Whaley was convicted of possession of marijuana up to ½ ounce. Whaley was fined $75 and court costs.

SALUDA POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT

During the month of April 2017, the Saluda Police Department answered 116 calls for service.

The police department made nine arrests, two for driving while impaired, three for drugs, two for warrants, one for assault and one for breaking and entering and trespassing.

There were 26 state citations issued, six city citations issued, 16 warning tickets, three accidents, two larcenies, three break and entering, nine welfare checks, 10 alarms, four open doors, 34 suspicious person/vehicle and three property damage.

Officers checked all businesses and churches every night, assisted with six check points with the N.C. Highway Patrol, Columbus Police Department and Polk County Sheriff’s Office and patrolled 4,610 miles.

POLK COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE REPORT

During the month of April 2017, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office answered 519 calls for service.

There were six felony arrests, 31 misdemeanor arrests and 25 citations issued.

Officers completed 844 house checks, 2,334 business checks, 1,263 church checks, assisted the public four times, served 66 civil papers, 32 criminal papers and patrolled 24,196 miles.

A deputy was also placed at St. Luke’s Hospital for 168 hours sitting with involuntary commitments.

The Polk County Jail booked 79 inmates, including 60 males and 19 females.
