Kammie Sue Shannon, age 48, of Summerville, S.C., formerly of Chincoteague Island, Va., passed away at the Ralph H. Johnson Veterans Hospital in Charleston, S.C. on March 23, 2017, after a long illness.
She was a veteran of the United States Air Force. She was born in Livingston, Mont. on July 17, 1968, to Melvin and Diane Olsen. Kammie graduated from Chincoteague High School, in Chincoteague, Va., in 1986 where she was class president and a star, three-sport athlete. She was a member of the Union Baptist Church. She attended Lynchburg College, Old Dominion University, and Webster University where she received her master’s degree in psychology and social services. She was married to Patrick Shannon, USAF, retired.

As per Kammie’s wishes, a private family ceremony will be held at her favorite, special beach haven. As a memorial, the family will establish an annual, female student, athletic scholarship in the amount of $1,000 in Kammie’s name to be presented at the end of each school year at the Chincoteague High School awards program.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a small donation to the American Heart Association or the SPCA.
