The Polk County Public Library celebrated Chinese New Year and the upcoming “Year of the Rooster” Thursday afternoon with traditional Chinese art projects and Chinese food. Chinese New Year fell on Jan. 28 and was celebrated in China with traditions ranging from firecrackers to an annual televised gala party. According to Jen Pace Dickenson, youth services librarian at PCPL, the library’s celebration attracted 20 people, where they colored dragon cutouts, decorated Chinese lanterns and ate Chinese food with chopsticks. Angel and Miguel Vazquez shown here enjoyed learning to use chopsticks. (Photos by Michael O’Hearn)
