LHS women are 15-2 after defeating Blacksburg

Landrum head women’s basketball coach Deon Brice is fond of saying that his varsity players are young, and ever-learning while putting out terrific effort.

All that is true, but the Lady Cardinals also own a 15-2 overall record, and are 4-1 in the region, after the defeat of a tough region rival, Blacksburg, 77-70, at Blacksburg on Tuesday, Jan. 24.

This evening, the Cardinals host Chesnee, with tip-off set for 6 p.m.

To their credit on Tuesday, the Wildcats fought back from a nine-point deficit, to tie the game at 67. At that point, the Cardinals turned on the afterburners.

Ellen Boatwright’s 21 points, including a pair of threes, led the winners, while the Wildcats’ Sam Toney led everyone with 23. For the Cardinals, Lindsey Hardin added 18, Kaylee Huntley 10, Sara Price and Sarah Harris eight each, and Rachel Lanford seven.

After this evening, the Cardinals host St. Joseph’s Catholic on Tuesday, Jan. 31, with tip-off again set for 6 p.m. Feb. 1 is rival time as the Cards meet Polk County, in a postponed contest at Polk. This one is set to start at 6:30.
