Walter Jackson Killough Jr.

Walter Jackson Killough Jr., 70, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at his residence.

Walter was born to the late Walter Jackson Killough, Sr. and Vivian Simmons Killough in Greenwich, Conn. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War in the 4th Infantry Division. He attended Harry P. Harding High School in Charlotte, N.C., UNC Chapel Hill, and Stonier School of Banking at Rutgers University. Walter was employed by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and worked as a bank examiner for 37 years. He was an avid UNC basketball fan, loved tennis, and enjoyed working with computers. Walter was a member of The Congregational Church, Tryon, N.C.

Surviving is his wife of 47 years, Karen Vollmer Killough, a daughter, Julia Lindsay Findley (Owen) of Raleigh, N.C., a son, Eric Simmons Killough (Beth) of Morgan Hill, Calif., and three grandchildren, Margaret, Elijah, and Emma Jane.

In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his brother John Killough.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Tryon Congregational Church with Military Rites by the Polk County Veteran Memorial Honor Guard.

A reception will follow the service.
